Bike On is proud to announce the launch of the Minnesota State Bike-to-School League, promoting fun and cycling through three bike-to-school competitions each school year.
In late October, league officials counted bikes parked outside the high schools. The fall 2007 champion in the Total Bikes Category is Minneapolis South with 79 bikes. Second and third place went to Southwest (68 bikes) and Richfield (58 bikes).
Richfield is champion in the Ridership League, with 4.76% of students biking to school, followed closely by South (4.70%) and Southwest (4.68%). The Ridership League calculates a school’s total bikes as a percentage of its student population.
The MN State Bike-to-School League currently includes the 31 public and private high schools with 350 or more students located within an 8-mile radius of the downtown Minneapolis Central Library. The top ten schools in both leagues will advance to the winter and spring competitions.
